Few cars hold the legendary status of the Jaguar E-Type. When it first hit the roads in 1961, Enzo Ferrari famously called it “the most beautiful car ever made.” The E-Type combined sleek lines, groundbreaking performance, and luxury in a way that defined an era. While its timeless design has remained a symbol of elegance, the original powertrain and mechanical systems have aged, often requiring significant upkeep and lacking the reliability or environmental consciousness of modern vehicles.
A living legend meets modern technology
At our shop, we’ve been fortunate to work on some remarkable conversions, but the 1973 Jaguar E-Type might be one of our proudest accomplishments yet. The goal? Seamlessly marry the soul of this iconic vehicle with cutting-edge EV technology. We wanted to preserve its essence while bringing it into the 21st century as a reliable EV daily driver.
Breathing New Life into a Legend
Our E-Type conversion began with a powerhouse upgrade: a 72.8kWh Tesla Model S battery pack. The vehicle delivers over 200 miles of real-world range at highway speeds. This impressive range is powered by a Stealth Drive motor rated at 375kW (500hp) and 365 lb-ft of torque. The new electric Jaguar maintains its character while offering smooth electric acceleration.

Preserving the Jaguar’s spirit meant more than just selecting the right components. It meant ensuring the original aesthetic and driving experience remained intact. The shifter feels as it always did, seamlessly integrated with the new powertrain. Even the heater controls retain their original function, now triggering a modern heating system powered by the traction battery.
The drive selector was preserved and modified to control our EV powertrain
Beyond performance, this conversion has transformed the E-Type into a reliable daily driver—something the original, with its temperamental engine and maintenance quirks, never quite achieved. The owner now enjoys the freedom to take it out whenever they please, without the worry of oil leaks, hard starts, or unexpected breakdowns. This is an E-Type that not only turns heads but does so with effortless reliability.
Modern Elegance, Hidden Features
One of the Jaguar's more unique features is a display discreetly hidden in the glovebox. This advanced control panel offers diagnostics, drive mode selection (eco, normal, sport), and real-time data like cell voltages during charging. The decision to hide it was driven by the customer’s desire to maintain the car’s classic look while enjoying modern conveniences—a testament to how this project respects the past while embracing the future.
A Challenge Worth the Effort
Working on a car like the E-Type presented unique challenges. Replacement parts were often either unavailable or of subpar quality, requiring us to source or fabricate components that met our high standards. From trim to radiators, we ensured every piece was as durable and refined as the car deserved.

Another technical triumph was programming a fully custom Vehicle Control Unit (VCU). This system governs all the car’s functions with an emphasis on safety and reliability, incorporating OEM-level failsafe features to ensure peace of mind.

Cooling systems also posed a unique challenge. To maintain the E-Type’s silhouette, we designed a custom radiator that houses two thermally separate systems—one for the battery and onboard chargers and another for the motor and inverter. Speed-controlled fans ensure efficient cooling while keeping noise to a minimum.

The Road Ahead
The result is a car that stays true to the Jaguar E-Type’s legacy while offering the sustainability and performance of a modern EV. With its elegant lines, thoughtful engineering, and thrilling powertrain, this electrified E-Type is ready to inspire a new generation of admiration on the open road.

At our shop, we see projects like this as more than just technical challenges—they’re opportunities to keep automotive history alive in a way that’s relevant for today and tomorrow. This Jaguar E-Type, with its blend of timeless beauty and innovative technology, stands as a shining example of what’s possible.
Stay tuned for more exciting projects as we continue redefining classic cars for a sustainable future!
