Conversions FAQ
What is included in the Base Vehicle Conversion?
The Base Vehicle Conversion includes all the essential components required to transition your vehicle to an electric powertrain. This covers the electric motor, battery system, controller, wiring, and other necessary elements to ensure the vehicle is functional and safe.
How much does a typical conversion cost?
A basic vehicle conversion generally starts at around $60,000, assuming we have an existing design for your vehicle model. If additional engineering is required to create a custom design, the additional engineering costs can range between $15,000 and $45,000, depending on the complexity.
Can any vehicle be converted to electric?
Absolutely! Most vehicles can be converted to electric, but some models are more suited for conversion than others. During the initial consultation, we evaluate your vehicle to determine its suitability for conversion and discuss any potential challenges.
What kind of performance can I expect from a converted vehicle?
Converted electric vehicles typically offer improved acceleration and a smoother driving experience compared to their gasoline counterparts. The specific performance metrics will depend on the components selected and the overall design of the conversion.
What types of optional add-ons are available?
We offer a wide range of optional add-ons to customize your vehicle. These can include enhanced performance features, additional functionalities like advanced infotainment systems, and creature comforts such as air conditioning and bespoke lighting. (If you can dream it, we can make it happen)
Will converting my vehicle to electric affect its resale value?
Converting your vehicle to electric can potentially increase its resale value due to the rising demand for electric vehicles and their associated benefits, such as lower maintenance costs and environmental impact.
What kind of maintenance does a converted electric vehicle require?
Electric vehicles typically require less maintenance than traditional gasoline vehicles. Key maintenance tasks include battery health checks, brake servicing, and tire changes.
How do I get started with a conversion project?
To get started, simply contact us to schedule an initial consultation. During this meeting, we'll discuss your Mission Requirements, evaluate your vehicle, and provide a detailed quote and timeline for your conversion project.
What is the range of a converted electric vehicle?
The range of a converted electric vehicle entirely depends on the battery capacity and the efficiency of the powertrain. On average, our conversions can achieve ranges from 100 to 300 miles per charge, depending on the specific setup and driving conditions.
Can I charge my converted vehicle at home?
Yes, you can charge your converted electric vehicle at home using a standard electrical outlet or a dedicated home EV charging station. We can provide guidance on the best charging solutions for your needs.
How do I know if my vehicle's existing components are compatible with an electric conversion?
During the initial consultation, our engineers will evaluate your vehicle's existing components to determine compatibility with the electric powertrain. We'll discuss any necessary modifications to ensure a seamless integration.
How does an electric conversion impact the weight and balance of the vehicle?
The weight and balance of the vehicle can be affected by the conversion, but our engineers carefully design the placement of components to maintain optimal weight distribution and handling. In some cases, the overall weight can be comparable to or even less than the original vehicle.
What happens to my vehicle's original engine and components?
After the conversion, your vehicle's original engine and components can be returned to you, or we can assist in recycling or selling them. The choice is yours, and we can provide guidance based on your preferences.
How do I maintain the battery health of my converted electric vehicle?
Maintaining battery health involves regular charging, avoiding extreme temperatures, and following manufacturer recommendations for battery care. Our Battery Management System (BMS) plays a crucial role in this process by monitoring and regulating the battery's performance. The BMS ensures optimal charging, prevents overcharging and deep discharging, and balances the cells to extend the battery's lifespan and maintain its efficiency. Our team will provide detailed instructions and tips to help you maximize the lifespan and performance of your vehicle's battery.
Service FAQ
How often should I service my electric vehicle?
While electric vehicles generally require less frequent servicing than traditional gasoline vehicles, it is recommended to have your EV inspected annually or every 10,000 miles. Key areas of focus include the battery system, brakes, tires, electric motor, and software updates.
What types of EV's do you service?
We are happy to service just about any EV. We specialize in Nissan Leafs and Teslas, and are always excited to take a look at unique electric vehicles.
What parts and accessories do you use for repairs?
We use genuine OEM parts (or better) for all repairs and upgrades to ensure the highest quality and compatibility with your electric vehicle. Using OEM parts helps maintain the integrity and performance of your vehicle.
What are the costs associated with servicing an electric vehicle?
Service costs for electric vehicles can vary depending on the specific maintenance required. Generally, EVs have lower ongoing maintenance costs compared to traditional vehicles due to fewer moving parts and no need for oil changes. Specific services like battery inspections, brake servicing, and software updates will have associated costs, which we can outline during your service appointment.
What kind of maintenance does an electric vehicle require?
Regular maintenance for an electric vehicle includes checking the battery health, inspecting and servicing the brake system (which may last longer due to regenerative braking), rotating tires, and ensuring the software is up to date. Additionally, coolant levels for the battery and electric motor may need periodic checks.
What is regenerative braking, and how does it benefit my vehicle?
Regenerative braking is a feature in electric vehicles that converts kinetic energy back into stored energy in the battery during braking. This not only extends the range of your vehicle by increasing overall efficiency but also reduces wear on traditional braking components.
How much does a Nissan Leaf battery pack upgrade cost?
We offer two options for upgrading your Nissan Leaf battery pack. A 40 kWh battery upgrade, which provides 150+ miles of range, is priced at $12,900. Alternatively, a 62 kWh battery upgrade, offering 230+ miles of range, typically costs $14,500. Both upgrades account for all necessary components and installation labor costs.
Can any auto repair shop service my electric vehicle?
Not all auto repair shops have the expertise or equipment to service electric vehicles. It is recommended to take your EV to a shop that specializes in electric vehicles or to our service center, where technicians are trained in EV maintenance and repair.
